Gerald Zojer presenting his research at the Petrocultures conference in St. John's, Canada

HuSArctic researcher Gerald Zojer attended the third edition of the Petrocultures conference series, which this year took place from August 31st until September 3rd. The conference was hosted by the Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The conference series aims to deepen and extend the vitally important conversations about energy, particularly in regard to the usage of hydrocarbon resources.

The 2016 edition of the conference focused on “The Offshore”. Gerald presented some results of his recent research under the title: The Role of Hydrocarbon Development in Arctic Governance and its Interplay with Human Development in the Region. His presentation was held in a session organized by the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Extractive Industries, which discussed extractive industries-led development for rural and remote communities in the Arctic region.
