HuSArctic researcher were well presented at the ECoHuCy conference in Rovaniemi on May 24 and 25. The ECoHuCy project (“Enablement besides Constraints: Human Security and a Cyber Multi-disciplinary Framework in the European High North”) focuses on the interrelations of human security and cybersecurity, with a regional focus on the European High North.
UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law has published the fifth volume of the Current Developments in Arctic Law. The annual publication of the Network endeavors to present short updates on matters pertaining to the Arctic law, thereby disseminating information on topical Arctic issues and ongoing projects relevant in the field. The fifth volume, published with a reformatted look, contains seventeen chapters including both academic and non-academic contributions.
The Nordic Council of Ministers funded project: “The Food (in)Security in the Arctic: Contribution of Traditional and Local Food to promote Food Security with Particular Reference to the European High North” had its first workshop held at the Council for Baltic Sea States (CBSS) on 13 October 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden. The project is hosted at the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland.
Prof. Kamrul Hossain addressed at the 20th International Symposium on “The Environment and the Industry” held on 28-29 September 2017 in Bucharest, Romania. The conference was organized by the National Research and Development Institute for Industrial Ecology – ECOIND, based in Bucharest. The title of Prof. Hossain’s presentation in the Symposium was “The Arctic case: A paradox between environmental change and economic globalization?”
On 20 September 2017, Dr Dorothée Cambou presented her research project about the impacts of renewable energy on the rights of indigenous peoples at Arctic Energy Summit. The panel session was organised by the Ministry of Environment of Finland. The conference was held in September 18-20, 2017 in Helsinki, Finland. The Summit is a multi-disciplinary event, which gathered several hundred industry officials, scientists, academics, policy makers, energy professionals and community leaders together to collaborate and share leading approaches on Arctic energy issues.
