The five HuSArctic researchers Kamrul Hossain, Gerald Zojer, Wilfried Greaves, J. Miguel Roncero, and Michael Sheehan joint authored the article "Constructing Arctic security: an inter-disciplinary approach to understanding security in the Barents region", which was published by Polar Record in November 2016.
HuSArctic is happy to co-host a seminar on Indigenous Knowledge, IPRs and Human Rights, together with the Faculty of Law of the University of Lapland.
The seminar aims at delving into core issues related to the governance of indigenous peoples’ rights. A range of senior and junior researchers will present and tackle key research questions related to the intersection between indigenous peoples’ knowledge, intellectual property rights and human rights.
The seminar will be held on 5 December 2016, at 12.00-16.00, in Arctic Centre (Arktikum house).
The Director of the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) and the leader of the HuSArctic project, Prof. Kamrul Hossain has given a presentation at the 3rd International Academic Conference on Human Security held at the Rectorate building at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. The conference took place from 04-05 November 2016.
HuSArctic lead Dr. Kamrul Hossain and HuSArctic researchers Anna Petrétei and Gerald Zojer presented the research team during the 9th Polar Law Symposium and the Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland. During these events they presented two new papers that were produced as part of the HuSArctic research project.
Researcher Gerald Zojer represented HuSArctic at the Conference “Petrocultures 2016: The Offshore”, in St. john's, Newfoundland (CAN). His presentation was titled: The Role of Hydrocarbon Development in Arctic Governance and its Interplay with Human Development in the Region.
